Through the W Initiative, Access Bank enabled several women-owned small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Surulere, Lagos, during a series of grassroots engagements in October.

The W Initiative's objectives include women's inspiration, connection, and freedom. In order to assist women-owned companies in Lagos State, Access Bank and LSETF (Lagos State Employment Trust Fund) launched a N2 billion Matching Fund loan programme in 2019.

This credit programme provides startups, microenterprises, and small and medium-sized enterprises with loans ranging from N50,000 to N5 million. In October, the W Initiative of Access Bank and the LSETF teams began a series of grassroots engagement events to educate businesswomen in Lagos about the facility's availability, the associated procedures, and necessary qualifications. This was done in an effort to raise awareness and close the information gap.

"Women are a driving force in the Nigerian economy, but their access to finance is far too small," stated Abiodun Olubitan, Group Head of the W Initiative, as she opened the meeting. LSETF and Access Bank worked together to bridge the gap. This project has the potential to boost the economic contributions of women-owned enterprises in Nigeria and have a substantial impact on development.
